Sadler Brown were appointed by Tiger Lifting to develop a scheme for their new storage and distribution facility with associated new access and parking. The chosen site was a former food factory so lent itself well to becoming another industrial development.
Located in Amble, Northumberland, the 1 acre site is connected to Newcastle upon Tyne via the A1 and has access to the coast. Until 2010 the site housed a large food factory and provided 250 local jobs, it was important that the development had a positive impact on the local economy and community.
An efficient design proposal was put forward, with the building reflecting the local industrial vernacular and cost effective materiality, with a glass curtain wall to create a clear and defined entrance to the main entrance. Planning was approved and following the technical design, the project started on site. The landscaping was designed to retain as much of the existing hedgerow as possible to reduce the visual impact of the development from the surrounding roads.
The completed development has been well received by the clients and achieved everything they set out to do.
