Haymarket Hub

Redevelopment of the Haymarket Hub at the head of Northumberland Street, the prime shopping street in Newcastle upon Tyne, to provide retail, commercial, bar/restaurant and office accommodation.

Haymarket Hub is an exemplar project in public/private partnership. It has received national and international recognition for its innovation in terms of construction.

The project’s financial structure was one of the keys for unlocking Government monies for the reinvigoration of the Tyne and Wear Metro, which will proceed over the next 10 years.

The project required an innovative structural solution to span over the existing station. The building is a “bridge” which spans over the ground level concourse and underground structures. It sits on six legs which has allowed the creation of a virtual column free space at ground level.

We were responsible for providing architectural, landscape and lead designer services on a two stage design and build scheme.
