Senior Architect Laura Halewood and Architectural Assistants Katherine Bluff and Hollie Phelps organised and delivered the classes. Following the success of another RIBA Ambassadors workshop orchestrated by Laura at a school in west Newcastle, she felt it was really beneficial and pushed for another opportunity to open the minds of children at another local school. The RIBA Architecture Ambassadors programme enables architects and teachers to share resources and provide engaging workshops to school-aged children to inspire and educate them about the world of architecture. Sadler Brown were delighted to be able to resource and participate in this programme again, investing in future generations.
Expanding on their current syllabus learning of the Maya civilization, known for their advances in mathematics and architecture, the children were tasked with designing their own Mayan temple. By keeping the brief simple and open, it allowed the children to be creative and innovative and really have fun with the project.
“It went really well, we were pleased with how engaged all of the children were in the design of their temples. They understood and were able to recreate design drawings amazingly quick!” – Katherine Bluff
This week the team will be back to help the children to build their temples, we can’t wait to see the results!
