The OME is an experimental research building to accommodate and showcase the work of HBBE (Hub for Biotechnology in the Built Environment). The building is located in the centre of Newcastle University’s city campus and is set to be complete by early May.
The concept behind OME is that the outer skin of the building wraps a domestic scale studio which accommodates spaces to develop materials, undertake research and demonstrate new technologies for building materials that are being prototyped by HBBE. The hub aims to utilise biotechnology to create a new generation of ‘living buildings’ which are adaptive, restorative and resilient.
OME will be the backdrop to presenting this new research to small groups of visitors from industrial, academic, government and public audiences.
More information about HBBE (hub for biotechnology in the built environment) can be found at: http://bbe.ac.uk/index.php/ome/
