Located on one of Morpeth’s more historically important streets, Bridge Street, the buildings context and rich history inspired the interior design for the project. Since 1770 the building was operated and run by a family-owned solicitors practice in the heart of Morpeth. As a tribute to the longstanding services provided, the names of the new apartments were influenced by legal terminology.
The Grade II listed building had many existing features which were retained and enhanced, with additional features incorporated to compliment and accentuate the historic feel of the spaces. A rich colour palette was used throughout, another reference to the historic use of the building. The apartments were to feel luxurious and decadent, so materials and features were chosen accordingly, such as free standing, copper roll-top baths with brass fittings.
The Courtyard Vault and Barristers Vault each had their respective original vault doors, which were restored and polished, creating a unique and quirky feature in these apartments. To contrast with the historic features, contemporary materials and finishes were chosen. Sleek kitchens, boucle sofas and brass cluster-pendant lights bring a modern twist.
Since completion, the apartments have been a local success, now operating as self-serviced apartments providing luxury accommodation in the centre of Morpeth.
