Newcastle Building Society’s new central branch is open! 

Architects-Group are delighted to have led the design of Newcastle Building Society’s new flag-ship branch in Newcastle City Centre.

Located in a prominent city centre position, opposite Grey’s Monument, the building is Grade II listed and contributes to the heritage of Newcastle’s central conservation area. Architects Group were enlisted to lead the design of the extension, renovation and fitout of this spectacular building, from its previous use as a retail unit, to Newcastle Building Society’s central branch.

Special consideration was given to ensure the listed building structure and details were retained and preserved, with sensitive external alterations allowing for an overhaul of the building layout and circulation. The listed building and existing features made the design and fitout a complex and unique challenge, but working as part of a multidisciplinary team, each consultant ensured the smooth delivery of this project. Throughout the building circulation has been consolidated and improved, with additional space created and building services upgraded and modernised. Internally, the fitout reflects Newcastle Building Society’s brand image and creates a welcoming and community focused hub. In addition to public areas, new facilities have been designed and developed for the staff of NBS such as offices, meeting rooms and events spaces.

The project gained Listed Building Consent in August and is now open to the public. Architects Group are proud to have contributed to such an incredible building and ultimately provide a flag-ship branch for Newcastle Building Society to service the people of Newcastle for years to come.
