Architects Group project shortlisted for Inside Housing Development Awards 2025!

Architects Group’s project in collaboration with Tyne Housing has been shortlisted for Inside Housing Development Awards 2025. The project is an exemplar scheme as part of the Government’s Single Homeless Accommodation Programme (SHAP), supported by Gateshead Council, and has been shortlisted for the Best Supported Housing Development – Urban.

Located in Pelaw, Gateshead, the proposal creates 20 one-bedroom apartments as well as communal faculties for residents, facilitating support, training and activities on site. The accommodation is arranged around a central green space, giving all spaces a well-designed and beautiful outlook. The building itself takes queues from surrounding terraced houses and Tyneside flats, unique to the North East. Internal designs of the apartments follow a Tyneside flat layout, whilst materials and opening proportions are inspired by the surrounding buildings.

Care has been taken to ensure that the final building will be a welcoming place for all, with high importance placed on the mental and physical wellbeing of residents and staff, with proximity to green space and facilities to support active travel such as secure cycle storage for all residents. The project will provide much needed support and accommodation for people in Gateshead who have at some point experienced homelessness, as well as creating 10 new jobs, enabling Tyne Housing to expand their resources and operations, to help even more people.
